The medium-frequency power supply is a static frequency converter that transforms a three-phase power supply at industrial frequency into a single-phase power supply. It exhibits strong adaptability to various types of loads and has a wide range of applications, primarily used in the melting, holding, sintering, welding, quenching, tempering, through-heating, purification of molten metals, heat treatment, pipe bending, and crystal growth of diverse metals.
The standard output power range is from 30 kW to 4000 kW; the standard configuration melting furnace series ranges from 5 kg (30 kW) to 5000 kg (4000 kW); and the standard oscillation frequency range is from 0.5 kHz to 8 kHz.
The operating principle of the medium-frequency power supply is as follows: A three-phase bridge fully-controlled rectifier circuit converts alternating current into direct current. After being smoothed by a reactor, this results in a stable DC current source. This DC current is then inverted into a single-phase medium-frequency current of a specific frequency (typically ranging from 1000 to 8000 Hz) via a single-phase inverter bridge. The load consists of an induction coil and compensating capacitors connected in parallel to form a parallel resonant circuit.
The crucible of a medium-frequency induction heating furnace is an essential component of the induction furnace. In addition to holding molten steel for smelting, it also serves as an insulator, provides thermal insulation, and facilitates energy transfer. Besides meeting metallurgical requirements, the refractory materials used for crucibles in medium-frequency induction heating furnaces must also possess certain electrical properties. Crucibles used in induction smelting are classified according to their material composition and manufacturing methods.

Based on the chemical properties of the refractory materials used to make crucibles, they can be classified into three types: basic crucibles, acidic crucibles, and neutral crucibles. These three types of crucibles are used for different purposes respectively.
During the melting process in a medium-frequency induction heating furnace, it is essential to use dry charge materials and handle them with care—placing them gently and adding them frequently. When the charge material in the furnace has melted to the desired level, it should be promptly poured out to prevent prolonged exposure to high temperatures, which could accelerate wear and tear on the furnace lining. Regularly monitor the furnace closely; if you notice reddening on the outer surface of the furnace body, this is an early sign of a potential furnace leak. For maintenance of medium-frequency induction heating furnaces, promptly take measures such as shutting down the medium-frequency power supply, stopping the furnace operation, and pouring out the molten charge from the furnace to avoid furnace leakage accidents. During operation, also pay attention to the condition of the furnace lining: if you find that the lining has become excessively thin and is no longer suitable for continued use, you should remove the old lining and rebuild a new one to prevent furnace leakage incidents.
