The medium-frequency induction heating furnace boasts advantages such as compact size, light weight, high efficiency, superior thermal processing quality, and environmental friendliness. It is rapidly replacing coal-fired furnaces, gas-fired furnaces, oil-fired furnaces, and conventional resistance furnaces, making it a new-generation metal heating equipment. The medium-frequency induction furnace is a key piece of equipment in casting, forging, and heat-treatment workshops. Its operational stability, reliability, and safety are essential guarantees for the smooth and stable operation of continuous casting, forging, and heat-treatment production lines. The medium-frequency induction furnace holds great potential for development in the field of thermal processing, particularly in the production of pre-forging heating furnaces, through-heating furnaces, and induction heating systems used for processes including through-heating, rolling, forging, pipe bending, heat treatment (quenching), and welding.
The mechanical transmission system for medium-frequency production-line equipment adopts a single-station operation mode. Medium-frequency quenching, tempering, and annealing are performed sequentially in separate time slots according to the specific process steps. The induction coils are replaced using a comprehensive lifting and hoisting method, combined with rapid positioning and quick hydraulic-electrical connections (allowing for the replacement of an entire set of induction coils in a short period of time). Moreover, the axial position of the induction coils can be easily adjusted to accommodate heating requirements for various billet specifications. This complete production equipment consists of eleven components tailored to the needs of each product: an inbound and outbound material storage rack, inbound and outbound material conveying devices, a workpiece self-rotating roller conveyor system, a medium-frequency quenching heating module, a medium-frequency quenching holding module, a medium-frequency tempering module, a medium-frequency annealing module, a quenching spray device, a hydraulic station, a central control console, and an automatic control system.
Simply put, a medium-frequency induction furnace for steel pipe quenching—also known as a medium-frequency steel pipe quenching production line—is equipment that uses electromagnetic induction to generate eddy currents on the metal surface, thereby heating and melting the metal. It consists of seven main components: a medium-frequency power supply cabinet, a capacitor cabinet, a furnace body, a cooler, a furnace front control console, a furnace front operating table, and a hydraulic station. Depending on the power rating, it can be either air-cooled or water-cooled. Given that this equipment operates under high voltage and large current, and considering that after the metal melts into a liquid inside the furnace, its temperature ranges between 1,300 and 1,600°C (for iron), even a slight carelessness could result in minor property damage at best, and in severe cases, even fatalities, seriously disrupting the normal course of production activities.
The cooling pipelines are made of stainless steel, and pure water is used as the coolant. After nearly a year of operation, no scaling has been observed. The medium-frequency power supply cabinet employs diode rectification, which significantly reduces harmonic interference and improves the system’s power factor (the manufacturer’s stated value is above 0.95; actual measurements show 0.92—national grid regulations require a power factor of at least 0.9). The level of power factor directly affects electricity costs. A total of 70 temperature sensors have been installed on the 2-ton electric furnace body and the power supply cabinet. These sensors, connected to the DCS5-CB7 computer monitoring and control system, allow for convenient real-time monitoring of temperatures and pressures at critical points, as well as automatic adjustment and optimization of various parameters. The entire operation is centralized on a monitoring console, making the process relatively simple. Over the past year of use, the manufacturer of the medium-frequency steel pipe quenching production line reports that, apart from a minor leak in the medium-frequency cabinet in July 2006—which resulted in damage to some components and necessitated replacement of a water-cooled cable—the rest of the time has been characterized by only occasional replacements of small parts. Overall, the system has demonstrated remarkable operational stability. In terms of maintenance, this system is considerably easier to service than a 1-ton electric furnace.
